Pennsylvania Dutch Funny Cake

My 30th birthday is right around the corner!  I thought that I would like a party with my twinnie, but her hubs is most likely taking her away somewhere...and frankly, my mom sissy and I would probably end up doing most of the cooking, planning, decorating, etc.  That's no fun.  So hubs had a pow wow with my mom, and decided that I deserve to go away too!  Of course I do!  tee hee!   Hubs told me I could go anywhere I wanted.  mmkk...let's see...we are on a budget and we always go to Cape May...that was out.  Massachusetts is too long of a drive for just a 3 day trip.  So where to?  How about Lancaster, PA?  Its peaceful, quiet, we've never been there, and they have great shopping...SOLD!!  Doing my research for places to stay and things to do, I discovered that the PA dutch are some good cooks!   In honor of my upcoming trip, here is a recipe for:
Pennsylvania Dutch Funny Cake
Bake 350 degrees for 1 hour
2- 9 inch unbaked pie shells

2 cups flour
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1/2 cup crisco
1 cup of milk
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp vanilla
Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs one at a time. Add other ingredients alternatly. Divide the cake mixture in two unbaked pie shells

Coca Mixture
1 cup sugar plus 2 TBS.
1/2 cup cocoa
1 cup water plus 2 TBS.
1 tsp. vanilla
Pour cocoa mixture over top of cake mixture and bake.

* Do NOT, I repeat, Do NOT open the oven door while this is baking!!  If you do, the magic will not happen!!  The chocolate mixture should filter its way down to the bottom of the vanilla cake leaving a yummy, gooey, pudding-like layer.  Yum!

Being the sweets lover that I am, I thought that this wouldn't be complete without some frosting.  You can't have cake without frosting, right??  I used the a strawberry frosting from Sprinkles' Cupcakes via Martha Stewart.  While is is a yummy frosting, I did find it a tad too sweet...yes, sometimes things are too sweet for even me!
Trust me...this cake does not even need the frosting...it was a hit!!
Enjoy!
